Wedding Reception Planning

Wedding Reception Planning Tips

Three important pieces of advice when it comes to wedding reception ideas and organizing your wedding reception: as soon as you know you're getting married is the time to book your reception. Why? Because weddings take a considerable amount of time to plan and this is especially true when it comes to the reception. Did you know that many reception sites and banquet halls are booked as much as 12 to 18 months in advance, especially in large, urban areas? We kid you not! In every community there seem to be one or two vendors in particular whose reputation precedes them: that baker who makes divine wedding cakes and that photographer who gets magical results and that caterer that makes simply delicious food. So to avoid disappointment and make sure you have your favorite vendors, you must book as soon as you've confirmed a wedding date.

Pointer number two: many an unsuspecting couple has fallen victim to the out-of-control wedding reception. It's kind of like Hollywood meets My Big Fat Greek Wedding all rolled into one.

We want to clear up a major misconception about wedding reception ideas: the bigger, more expensive and showier the reception, the better it'll be and the happier your guests. False! While we're all for larger, more formal receptions, we want you to remember why you're having a reception in the first place: you're celebrating your nuptials with your loved ones and honored guests. You don't need to break the bank in order to please your guests and have a lovely reception.

Sometimes this obsession with your reception morphs into a big, Hollywood-type production, complete with major stress and disagreements between the bride and groom and their families. You've lost control - not to mention sight - of what the reception is meant to be. You can avoid this happening to you if you keep the following points in mind: keep it joyful, intimate and fun. You can still have a large, formal reception that hits all the right notes if you remember that it's meant to be fun for everyone, especially for the two of you!

Pointer number three: many vendor services involve customized orders, requiring considerable time to complete. They're specialists at what they do, whether it's making wedding dresses, photography, baking cakes, designing floral arrangements or food catering.
